New range of Functional Extracts
Health trends in the field of nutrition are rapidly evolving to meet the growing needs of consumers who want to improve their health through diet and the choice of foods and beverages with healthy or functional properties.
For example, opting for low-sugar or sugar-free foods; plant-based foods; foods suitable for specific diets; foods enriched with functional ingredients – fibres, antioxidants, vitamins and minerals that offer health benefits.
In addition to the traditional flavours and natural flavours, L’Italiana Aromi is developing a new line of extracts with functional elements characteristic of the named botanicals.
This range includes soft and powder extracts that fit different applications.
The extraction from the relevant botanicals takes place exclusively with water, without the use of any type of organic solvent. This extraction process ensures that the functional components of the relevant botanicals have a high bioavailability for the body.
The application is in functional foods, mainly in the following sectors: drinks, candies, dairy and plant-based yoghurts and drinking yoghurts.
Hibiscus soft extract
Hibiscus Sabdariffa is a perennial plant of the Malvaceae family, native to the tropical areas of Asia and East Africa. It is cultivated in many other areas of the world for the production and trade of its fleshy fruits. The pleasant ruby-colored drink obtained from their infusion is very widespread and well-known.
The extraction from the flowers, for the preparation of our extract, takes place exclusively with water, like the traditional domestic infusion, without the use of any type of organic solvent.
This extraction process preserves the content of the main functional components of the hibiscus, i.e. magnesium and potassium.
The two elements are present in our soft extract in significant quantities, especially potassium:
K > 22.0 g/kg
Mg > 4.0 g/kg
Magnesium and potassium are two essential mineral salts for the natural well-being of our body and are the most abundant in human cells, they are closely related to each other.
Potassium has a fundamental beneficial action on the heart and muscles. It provides for the regulation of blood pressure and cardiac activity and, together with magnesium, helps to reduce the feeling of fatigue, especially when efforts are made.
The application is in functional foods, mainly in the following sectors: drinks, candies, dairy and plant-based yoghurts and drinking yoghurts.
Green Tea soft extract
Green tea, originally from China, derives from the leaves of Camellia Sinensis, without having undergone the traditional fermentation process typical of black teas.
The extraction from the leaves, for the preparation of our extract, takes place exclusively with water, copying the traditional domestic infusion, without the use of any type of organic solvent. This extraction process ensures that the functional components of green tea have a high bioavailability for the body.
Our soft extract has > 70% soluble solids from green tea.
It is not a selective extraction but an extract that contains the entire phytocomplex of green tea: Polyphenols (catechins, flavonols, flavones, theaflavins and thearubigins), phenolic acids (gallic acid) and methylxanthines (caffeine, theobromine, theophylline), thus enhancing its beneficial power compared to the individual components.
Green tea is particularly rich in catechins such as EGCG (Epigallocatechin gallate) known for its antioxidant properties that help protect cells from damage caused by free radicals.

- Dry extract: >70% soluble solid from green tea
- Total catechins: > 100 g/Kg
- Epigallocatechin gallate: > 30 g/Kg
